Police arrest Anambra man for injuring wife, burying his newborn baby alive
In a disturbing incident, a man identified as Ifeanyi Ezenwankwo from Nanka community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State has been taken into custody by the police. It is alleged that he inflicted severe injuries on his wife, Ekwutosi, and buried their newborn baby in a shallow grave.
The shocking discovery came to light when Ekwutosi returned home and found her husband burying their child. She immediately raised the alarm, leading to the prompt arrest of Ezenwankwo by security operatives and the rescue of his wife.

According to Chidinmma Ikeanyionwu, media aide to the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, the wife revealed that her husband had been involved in an illicit affair with a 16-year-old girl who became pregnant. In an attempt to conceal his actions, he had resorted to aborting previous pregnancies. However, this time, the pregnancy was not terminated, resulting in the birth of the newborn.
The wife had already suspected her husband’s involvement with the young girl and had warned him to ensure the safety of the unborn child. Despite the warning, he hid the girl in his chambers. Disturbingly, the wife stated that her husband had threatened to kill her on numerous occasions, and community members had been forced to intervene in the past to protect her.
Ekwutosi further explained that their problems started when her husband married another woman who did not contribute to the welfare and upkeep of their children.
Investigations into this distressing incident are currently ongoing, and the suspect will remain in custody.
