Police arrests wife for alleged murder of husband in Abia

Mrs. Rose Uwaga has been arrested for strangling her 80-year husband, Mr. Isa Uwaga, to death in Umuahia, the capital city of Abia state, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonnaya, the state police command spokesperson who confirmed the incident, said Rose was arrested on Wednesday.

The police disclosed that one of Mr. Uwaga’s children, Ibeabuchi, reported the incident on the 2nd day of July while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for proper investigation.

Ogbonnaya however added that the deceased dead body has been deposited in the hospital for an autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of his death.

“During the fight, the man allegedly grabbed a machete to scare the wife but the woman reportedly overpowered him.

“The machete fell off his hand and the woman, who is huge, pinned him down by the neck and strangled him to death,” a resident of the area said on condition of anonymity.

Another account says the deceased might have slumped and died “out of exhaustion after his quarrel with his wife”.

“A 73-year-old woman can’t muster the strength to strangulate a man,” a friend to the family also said on condition of anonymity.
