Police escort, photographer die in tragic accident involving Sokoto Deputy Governor’s convoy

Tragedy struck on Wednesday when a fatal road accident involving the convoy of Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Engineer Idris Gobir, resulted in the loss of a photographer and a police escort.

The unfortunate incident occurred at approximately 10:30 am as the deputy governor was en route to Sabon Birni to host Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who was visiting the area to offer his condolences.

The photographer, identified as Buhari Usman, was traveling in one of the vehicles carrying security personnel assigned to the deputy governor when the vehicle veered off the road and overturned at the Yanrimawa area along Goronyo-Sabon Birni road.

Tragically, it was reported that the driver of the vehicle, who was a policeman, also lost his life in the accident.

While confirming the distressing event, the director of the deputy governor’s press office expressed his condolences and confirmed that the deceased individuals had been taken to the mortuary.

ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, the spokesperson for the Sokoto Police Command, stated that he had not yet been briefed about the details of the accident.
