They were trailed and arrested by the Niger State Security Committee set up to monitor people violating the state’s lockdown order initiated to curtail the spread of coronavirus.

Report gathered that, over 23 vehicles conveying the passengers from other states to Niger State had been impounded to serve as a deterrent to others.

It was gathered that four tricycles, (Keke Napep) and two other motorcycles were impounded within the period for flouting the order.

Further checks also revealed that people were not taken the order seriously.

The spokesman for the command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, saying the command would not tolerate any person or group of people violating the laws of the state.

Abiodun said, “We are on top of the situation, the command will not allow people to take the law into their own hands. We must make sure that people comply with the order of lockdown to avert COVID-19 pandemic. “

According to him, the command impounded two trailers, 15 buses, six vehicles and two motorcycles, adding that the owners would be prosecuted.

He said, “The command had stressed the need for political office holders in Niger State to return to their constituencies and sensitise their people to the need to adhere strictly to lockdown directives and also abide by experts advice to steer clear of coronavirus.”
