Police in Kano ban durbar activities during Sallah
The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah festivities.
The police cited security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, announced the ban during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters, on Friday.
Bakori emphasized the importance of ensuring a peaceful and secure environment during the festivities.
He said security assessments revealed growing tensions and potential threats associated with the Durbar, which could lead to unrest.
“Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state,” Bakori stated.
He said ‘’This decision was made after consultations with relevant security stakeholders following credible intelligence reports indicating an orchestrated plan by recruited miscreants and their sponsors to use Durbar as a proxy to undermine security and public order.
Also, the CP advised worshippers to conduct their normal Eid prayers at designated Eid praying grounds, as traditionally done in the past, as adequate security deployments have been concluded to guarantee peace and public safety.

Worshippers going to Eid praying grounds are advised to adhere to the following security tips; No carrying of unnecessary objects that may trigger suspicion or apprehension, No horse riding (Kilisa), Car-racing, reckless and dangerous driving, Parents and guardians should caution their children against being used by subversive elements as the Police and other security agencies are determined to enforce the law.
He noted that members of the public are warned to desist from any act or conduct that may likely cause breach of the peace or breakdown of law and order.
‘’As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must prioritize peace above everything else, putting aside our differences and coming together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of the State and the nation at large.

The Commissioner assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard the Eid prayers at designated grounds.
The Police Command also called for continued collaboration with security agencies and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The development comes after the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, announced that he had cancelled plans for Sallah Durbar in the interest of peace.
Recall that Aminu Ado Bayero had written to the police for protection during the Sallah activities. But many had expressed concern over the likelihood of violence since the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, was also preparing for Sallah events.
