Police rescue 23 foreign kidnapped victims in Nasarawa

The Federal Capital Territory police command has rescued 23 foreign nationals from kidnappers in Nasarawa State.

The victims 14 men, eight women and a child were freed unhurt during a late-night raid by the Scorpion Squad at Angwan Adamu Ruga Fulani Zone B, Ado-Mararaba, on Tuesday, October 22, 2025.

Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said 14 suspects were arrested after intelligence revealed that the victims were lured into Nigeria with fake job offers and later held for ransom. The syndicate allegedly demanded about ₦10 million each, paid in CFA currency, through WhatsApp and other online platforms.

Investigators identified the suspected ring leader as Abubakar Jigiba, linked to criminal networks across Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali and Nigeria, while his brother, Sougule Zoubere, reportedly coordinated recruitment from Mali. The victims were smuggled into Nigeria via illegal routes and kept in harsh conditions in two fortified apartments.

One victim sustained a minor injury and is receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, praised the operatives and urged residents to report suspicious activities.
