Ahmed Iliyasuz, the Chairman of the United Markers Association of Nigeria, Potiskum LG chapter, who is also the Director, Personnel Management (DPM), on Wednesday, appealed to the warring factions of the Association of Commercial Tricycle Riders of Nigeria, Potiskum council chapter to embrace peace.
He made the appeal during a meeting which was held to settle the crises between the warring factions.
Iliyasu lamented that they had watched with grave concern the growing crises within the association in the local government area and said that there was a need to end the problem.
He said, “We note that the crisis is deepening in spite of the various steps the stakeholders have taken to find an amicable resolution”.
He recalled that the elders and stakeholders and other eminent community leaders had all tried at various times to ensure that the issues did not escalate.
“However, our immediate concern for the association is how to ensure that unity returns to the ranks of the association in the local government area.
“In achieving this, we have decided to constitute a high-power fact-finding and reconciliation committee of security agencies, peace groups and market association leaders to meet with all disputing parties to ensure that all issues are addressed and resolved.”
It would be recalled that during the previous meeting with the two factions at the Council Chambers of the LG Secretariat, the two parallel leadership of the association were suspended by the council.
“We, therefore, uphold the suspension of the two Red and Black Chairmen, Danladi Lawan and Saidu Lawan, pending the inauguration of the caretaker committee”.
Nasiru Matothe, Chairman of the United Markers Association of Nigeria, Potiskum LG chapter, said that they had intervened and started making progress in uniting the two factions of the Tricycle Riders Association.
He said, “We have resolved to form a Caretaker Committee which will steer the affairs of the association for sometimes and conduct elections where neutral persons will come in”.
