President Tinubu hails Eagles’ 4-1 win over Gabon, calls for focus on World Cup qualification

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles on their 4–1 victory against Gabon in the FIFA World Cup Africa playoff, describing the result as a reflection of Nigeria’s resilience and determination to secure a World Cup berth.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, titled “President Tinubu Celebrates Super Eagles’ 4-1 Victory Over Gabon, Says Nigeria’s March To The World Cup Continues,” the President praised the team’s performance.

“The performance is a clear expression of the Nigerian character that rises, adapts, and prevails,” Tinubu said. “The team played with courage, balance, and precision, showing why football remains one of Nigeria’s most potent symbols of unity and pride.”

He added that the win injects fresh momentum into the nation’s spirit and commended the players, coaches, and technical and administrative staff for their commitment to the national cause. “The dedication has brought the national team victory, reflecting Nigeria’s deep pool of talent and the Super Eagles’ determination to reclaim their place among Africa’s top teams,” he said.

Tinubu also recognized the fans at home and abroad, noting their support is often decisive in key international matches. He urged the team to treat the remaining qualifiers as opportunities to demonstrate discipline and character.

“Every match presents a chance to prove again that Nigeria’s ambition is firmly within reach. The true Nigerian spirit of resilience should drive the team until qualification is secured,” the President concluded.
