Price surge in beans as millet, maize, sorghum drops in Dawasa town

The prices of major food commodities at the popular grain market in Dawasa town, Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State, have witnessed slight fluctuations, with an increase in the cost of beans and a notable drop in millet, maize, and sorghum.
A market survey conducted on Saturday, 19 April, reveals the price of beans have become more expensive across the board, other staple grains such as millet and sorghum are now selling at slightly reduced rates.

Millet is currently being sold at between ₦51,000 and ₦52,000 per bag, marking a marginal decline compared to previous weeks.
Similarly, white sorghum (commonly referred to as “Wuyo” or “Wala”) is now available at ₦35,000 to ₦36,000, while the Kaura variety is being sold at ₦41,000 to ₦43,000. White sorghum ranges from ₦35,000 to ₦36,000 as well.
Tobacco seeds have maintained a steady price of ₦16,000. Meanwhile, mixed sesame seeds are going for ₦60,000.
Beans have recorded a significant hike. Large white beans are selling between ₦90,000 and ₦93,000, while the smaller variety ranges from ₦90,000 to ₦94,000.
Brown beans are the most expensive among the legume category, priced between ₦95,000 and ₦96,000.
The price of Kwakwai sorghum was not available at the time of this report.
Additionally, local grain types such as Aƙwaro Ɗan Ngalda are priced at ₦23,000 and ₦21,000, while Guna is going for ₦33,000 to ₦35,000.
Traders in the market attributes the changes to seasonal variations, transportation costs, and fluctuations in supply and demand.
Neptune Prime reported that they also anticipate further adjustments in the coming weeks as Ramadan ends and preparations for the rainy season farming begin.
Market observers advise bulk buyers and households to keep a close watch on price trends and adjust their purchasing strategies accordingly.
