‎Prices of beans, millet, sorghum decline in Ngalda market, Yobe

‎There is positive news for residents and grain traders in Fika Local Government Area, as the prices of major staple grains have seen a notable decline at the Ngalda Grain Market.

‎According to the market update for June 30th, 2025, prices of essential grains such as maize, millet, sorghum, beans, and roselle have gone down significantly compared to previous weeks.

‎At the Ngalda market, maize (known locally as Masara) is currently being sold between ₦43,000 and ₦44,000 per 100kg bag. Millet (Gero) follows closely with a price range of ₦52,000 to ₦53,000.

‎For sorghum, is now priced between ₦35,000 and ₦37,000.

‎The price of white beans has dropped to ₦85,000–₦88,000 per bag, while red beans which previously saw a surge in price, now sell at ₦90,000 to ₦92,000.

‎Roselle, popularly used for making zobo drink and known locally as dried hibiscus flower, is selling at ₦20,000 to ₦21,000. Other local grains such melon a is selling between ₦44,000 and ₦45,000, with a different variant going for ₦33,000 to ₦35,000.

‎Polished rice remains high in price at ₦125,000, while broken and processed varieties continue to vary depending on the quality and supplier.

‎Groundnuts  a widely used commodity for oil and snacks, is being sold at ₦130,000.

‎This significant drop in prices has been met with gratitude and optimism by the people of Ngalda and its surrounding communities. Many traders and buyers expressed hope that the downward trend will continue, particularly as the rainy season progresses and agricultural activities intensify.
