Probe: I’m not afraid, Obaseki tells EFCC
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has expressed his readiness to face any inquiry by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following reports that he may be arrested next week after his tenure concludes.
The governor made these remarks in Abuja during the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session on Thursday.
Obaseki, who has been the Edo State Governor since 2016, emphasized that he harbors no fear regarding investigations into his administration, referring to accusations and petitions against him as politically motivated actions aimed at tarnishing his legacy.
“I hear that the EFCC will pick me next week after my tenure. Wherever they keep me, I’ll spend time doing research,” Obaseki stated, adding that he takes pride in the achievements of his administration, particularly reforms and initiatives focused on the people of Edo State.
He criticized the petitions as part of a broader campaign by “cruel and wicked” individuals motivated by vendetta. “They have written all sorts of silly petitions against me… In fact, I can even hand myself over. If they call me, I don’t have anything to hide,” he added.

Obaseki highlighted that his administration’s work will endure beyond his tenure, noting projects and reforms carried out in service of the people. He called for focusing on improving the nation and its citizens’ welfare instead of engaging in personal vendettas.
“Reforming the bureaucracy is a priority; we focused on the people and the civil servants,” Obaseki concluded, reaffirming his commitment to positive change despite political challenges.
