Prof. Usman: My NAHCON exit was personal
Former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has said his decision to resign from office was based purely on personal considerations reached after prayers and consultations with his family.
In a statement he personally signed, the former chairman confirmed that he formally submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with the provisions of the NAHCON Act.
“With deep reflection and gratitude to Allah SWT, I announce my resignation from the office of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, effective Monday, 9th February 2026,” he said.

“I wish to state unequivocally that this decision is taken entirely for personal reasons. After prayerful contemplation and consultation with my family, I have made this choice in good conscience and with profound respect for the sacred responsibilities of public service.”
Citing Section 3(6) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2006, Usman said he had transmitted his resignation in writing to the President.
He expressed appreciation to Tinubu for entrusting him with the opportunity to serve both Nigeria and the Muslim ummah.
“The confidence you placed in me is a privilege I will forever cherish,” he said, while also thanking Vice President Kashim Shettima for what he described as unwavering guidance, encouragement and support throughout his tenure.

Usman further extended gratitude to members of the NAHCON board, management and staff for their dedication and teamwork, noting that their professionalism and resilience were inspiring.
He also acknowledged the contributions of state pilgrims welfare agencies, tour operators, aviation and other service providers, as well as partners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, whose cooperation he said strengthened Nigeria’s Hajj operations.
The former chairman stressed that his resignation should not be interpreted as a sign of disagreement with the commission or the government.

He said, “As I step aside, my prayers are with you all. I ask Allah (SWT) in His infinite mercy to accept our humble efforts, to guide and bless the President and the new leadership of NAHCON, and to grant all future pilgrims a Hajj Mabrur.”
