PSC promotes 27 senior officers, 11 to AIG rank

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of 27 senior officers within the Nigeria Police Force, marking a significant advancement in the ranks.

This includes the elevation of 11 Commissioners of Police to the esteemed position of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and the promotion of 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police to full Commissioners of Police.

The promotions were officially confirmed during the PSC’s 2nd plenary meeting. A statement from Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, revealed that the officers underwent a rigorous selection process, involving both written and oral examinations held at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters on December 16, 2024.

These evaluations are part of the new promotion requirements introduced by the Commission, as highlighted by Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu for all police ranks moving forward.

Notable among the newly promoted AIGs are Umar Shehu Nadada from Nasarawa State, Mustapha Mohammed Bala from Rivers State, and Abayomi Peter Oladipo from Ondo State. Additionally, the list includes 16 Deputy Commissioners elevated to Commissioners of Police, such as Ojapinwa from the FCT, Emmanuel Ighodalo from Lokoja, and Bose Funmi Akinyemi from Lagos.

DIG Taiwo Lakanu, who oversaw the promotion interviews, urged the newly promoted officers to remain committed to their duties and to continue delivering excellent service. He reaffirmed the Commission’s pledge to ensure timely and merit-based promotions throughout the police force.
