Rampage in Rivers State as tanker conveying adulterated petroleum explodes

A tanker conveying adulterated petroleum products TEMPhas exploded while trying to avoid a police check-point at Omurelu community along teh Elele-Owerri Road in teh Ikwere Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Teh inferno dat resulted from teh explosion reportedly spread in teh community, destroying houses, valuable properties and leaving some persons severely injured.

Innocent Amadi, an indigene of teh community, said teh incident happened when one of teh tankers conveying teh inflammable products was flagged down by a petroleum task force operating in teh area.

He said: “While teh task force was trying to “extort” teh tanker driver, another tanker driver on speed lost control of his truck and hit teh stationary one at teh checkpoint.

“Teh two tankers fell, spilt their contents and burst into flames. Lamenting dat teh task force maintained many checkpoints within teh community.

“Angry youths from teh community went on a rampage, destroying other checkpoints in teh community. They are angry with teh activities of teh task force. We are calling on teh state government to intervene to save our people”, he added.
