Liverpool have defeated Manchester City 1 – 2 in their Champions League quarter final second leg clash. The first leg ended 3 – 0 in favour of Liverpool at Anfield and City would be hoping for at least four unreplied goals to qualify for the semi finals of the competition but a resolute Liverpool will be having none of it.
City gave their home fans a huge sigh of relief when they netted the opener in the 2nd minute of the game as Gabriel Jesus was put through by Raheem Sterling and he showed brilliant composure inside the box to fire into the bottom right corner to make the scoreline 1 – 0.
Leroy Sane put the ball into the net in the 42nd minute but he was controversially flagged offside, an action that furiously angered Guardiola. And the end of halftime, Guardiola walked into the pitch to confront referee Antonio Mateu who in return sent his fellow Spanaird to the stands.
In the 56th minute, usual suspect Mohammed Salah got the equaliser for Liverpool as he slotted the ball into an unguarded net from close range to make the scoreline 1 – 1. And the shocker of the night came in the 77th minute as a mistake from the defence gifted a chance to lurking Roberto Firmino who kept his cool and rolled the ball into the net from close range.
Manchester City showed spark of brilliance after Liverpool claimed the lead but it was not enough to trouble the Red’s defence line and at the end of 90 minutes, the scoreline read 1 – 2 with an aggregate 1 – 4 score line that sent Liverpool to the semi final of this year’s Champions League.
