Reps invite Dangote refinery, NMDPRA over downstream sector dispute
The House of Representatives Joint Committee on Petroleum Resources has invited Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to resolve disagreements that could disrupt Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
The committee chairman, Ikenga Ugochinyere, made this known after an emergency meeting in Abuja on Monday, cautioning that the growing tensions pose a risk to the stability recently recorded in the sector.
He said the intervention was necessary as the country continues efforts to stabilise fuel supply, pricing and regulation in the post-subsidy era.
According to him, the dispute arose from concerns and allegations raised by Aliko Dangote against the NMDPRA, particularly over regulatory practices.
Ugochinyere said the committee is determined to safeguard the gains already made in the downstream sector, noting that lasting solutions require a thorough examination of all contentious issues.

He explained that petitions received by the committee relate to the issuance of import licences and questions over whether domestic refineries can adequately meet Nigeria’s daily petroleum demand.
He added that all outstanding matters would be addressed when key stakeholders from the refining and regulatory sectors appear before the committee.
