Reps to report Judge for supporting removal of 84(12) of electoral act

Story from Isah Aliyu CHIROMA

The House of Representatives is set to report Justice Evelyn Anyadike to the National Judicial Council for supporting the Attorney-General of the Federation in removing section 84(12) signed Electoral Act.

Several members of the house attacked and criticized the judge over the order during a session on Wednesday.

Anyadike made headlines after she granted the controversial order that has created rancor in the lower chambers. She will be reported to the National Judicial Council for nullifying the provisions of Section 84(12) of the Amended Electoral Act of 2022.

Last week, POLITICS NIGERIA reported that Anyadike, in a Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami to remove Section 84(12) of the amended Electoral Act.

Section 84(12) says: “No political appointee at any level shall be voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election”.

Therefore, the house resolved to appeal the judgment and have it upturned.
