Residents abandon Borno village as terrorists send notice of attack

Residents of Kukawa Local Government Area in Borno State have abandoned their villages and belongings after terrorists of the Islamic State in West Africa ordered them to evacuate their homes or risk getting killed.

According to reports, the terrorists issued the directive on Thursday, making the residents to flee the area as ISWAP threatened that failure to comply by Saturday would result in deadly consequences.

The ultimatum comes following a recent attack by ISWAP in Tubum Rogo community that resulted in the deaths of 35 fishermen, injuries to 25 others, and the disappearance of 30 individuals.

According to eyewitnesses, ISWAP militants gathered residents from various communities early on Thursday and warned them to evacuate their homes within the given timeframe or face dire repercussions.

Many residents have since left for neighbouring towns like Monguno and Kross Kauwa in light of the imminent threat.

The decision to abandon their homes was made in response to the chilling warning issued by the extremist group.

Survivors of the Tubum Rogo massacre recount the harrowing ordeal where ISWAP insurgents rounded up the locals under false pretenses, accusing them of treachery before opening fire on them.

This tragic incident has left many families grieving, with several individuals still unaccounted for.

Despite appeals for government intervention and enhanced security measures in the region, residents express concerns over the lack of official response to safeguard their communities from further attacks.

Kukawa local government area, known for its fishing and farming activities, has become a target for ISWAP militants seeking to exploit its socio-economic significance.

The ongoing terror threats and violent actions by extremist groups have instilled fear and uncertainty among the residents, prompting many to abandon their livelihoods and seek refuge elsewhere.
