Sallah Day Tragedy: Fatal accident claims 9 lives in Katsina
At least nine people lost their lives in a fatal road crash on Sunday morning along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Katsina State.
The Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Aliyu Ma’aji, confirmed the accident, describing it as a lone accident involving a Hummer bus carrying 20 passengers.
Ma’aji said, “Nine passengers died on the spot, while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.”
Preliminary investigations attributed the crash to “speeding and loss of control.”
The FRSC commander urged motorists to exercise caution, warning against speeding, overloading, and reckless driving, especially during festive periods
He emphasised that “despite the state government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure, reckless driving remains a major cause of fatal accidents in Katsina.”
