Sanwo-Olu urges landlords to avoid rent increases

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called on landlords and landowners in the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area to avoid increasing rents for houses and shops.

Sanwo-Olu made the appeal during the inauguration of the Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga roads on Monday. The newly constructed 643-meter road, which includes a bridge with slip roads, replaces a swampy area previously crossed by a wooden bridge used for a fee. The project, which began on October 24, 2022, aims to improve connectivity and ease the challenges faced by residents.

The governor emphasized that the purpose of the new infrastructure is to enhance the quality of life, not to add financial burdens. “I urge landlords and landowners not to raise rents or land prices. This infrastructure is meant to provide relief, not create further hardship for the residents,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu also encouraged residents to protect the bridge and ensure it is not used as a dumping ground. He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing long-standing community issues, including flooding and traffic challenges.

Additionally, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr. Olufemi Daramola, reiterated the administration’s focus on completing projects that directly benefit the people.

The governor also inaugurated the rebuilt Alapere pedestrian bridge in Kosofe, which had been destroyed by an articulated vehicle in December of the previous year.
