Saudi Arabia raises $1.1bn for displaced persons in Sahel, Lake Chad
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, via the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, has pledged over $1.1 billion in support of displaced persons and refugees across the crisis-stricken Sahel and Lake Chad regions. The funding commitment, announced by Saudi Arabia’s Mission in Nigeria, has been made possible by contributions from more than 10 donor countries, agencies, and organisations focused on addressing growing humanitarian needs in these areas.
This significant donor conference, held in partnership with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), brought together key stakeholders dedicated to providing relief. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) also partnered in this initiative to extend urgent assistance to people in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, and Mali, who face severe crises and displacement.

Speaking at the conference, Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KS relief, expressed gratitude for the generosity shown by the donor community. He emphasised that these contributions reflect solidarity and will empower humanitarian organisations to deliver life-saving support to affected communities.
Al Rabeeah further stated that the contributions will not only enhance the security and resilience of impacted populations but also strengthen their ability to cope with ongoing challenges in the region.
