Story From Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Yobe State chapter, on Tuesday embarked on a prayer session for the country.

Led by the state chairperson of NAWOJ, Hilda Adebayo.

I welcome you all to the Nawoj solemn Assembly/National Muslim and Christians prayer taking place simultaneously Nationwide.

We are all aware of the current security challenges our dear country is facing, nigeria is going through a lot due to the activities of bandits, insurgents and kidnappers.

As a result a whole lot of innocent Nigerians have been killed, maimed or kidnapped for huge ransoms while properties worth billions of naira have been destroyed.

In the aftermath, no geopolitical zone of the country can be said to be very safe and crisis free, public and private schools are no longer safe for our children as students are being abducted here and there.

We can agree that all is no longer well with our country Nigeria there is bloodsheds every where and these spell doom and insecure future for the nation.

We as women, mothers and agents of change cannot afford to be silent in the midst of glooming darkness over our dear country Nigeria.

The call for a collective prayers is one of the most noble steps needed for God’s intervention.

Our coming together to pray and fast together is to bring repentance before God on behalf of the people and ask for his mercy and healing of our land.

My dear sisters, we must appreciate the efforts of the president, our governor hon Mai Mala Buni and all the security operatives for their tiredless efforts in restoring relative peace across the state. We must continue to pray for them as it is sad that the security operatives cannot solve the insecurity issues to restore total peace as they themselves have not been spared in the attacks.

Their formations and police stations have become object of attacks with many officers killed in active service to the nation.

This event becomes necessary for yobe state as we have witnessed slot of unrest in the State especially in the recent times.

We choose red to be the colour of the day signifying bloodsheds in the country, we decided to involved Idps, orphans, widows and vulnerables beside our sister women organizations to participate in the prayer and for us to distribute little gifts ahead of the sallah celebration to them.

We believe God will hear our prayers especially that of those oppressed, thank you for listening, long live Nawoj, long live yobe state, long live federal republic of Nigeria.
