KACRAN commends Senate President Lawan for pledging to support livestock devt

Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has commended Senate President, Dr Ahmed Lawan, for promising to support the development of the livestock sector in Nigeria.

KACRAN National President, Honourable Khalil Moh’d Bello, made the commendation in a statement made available to Neptune Prime.

He said the assurance by the Senate President Lawan is
historic and laudable.

“It’s an exciting dream come true for us when the Senate President said he will do everything humanly possible to end the total neglect of the livestock sector in the country.

“Truly, hearing this type of statement from a man of high repute like the Senate President is like a big signal that God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy has answered our very long and ardent prayers.

Moh’d Bello said he has confidence that the Senate President, being a man of principles will keep to his words and fulfill his promise.

“I can ascertain he keeps his word because there was a time I led a delegation of herders to his house during the 2015 general elections where I bitterly complained to him about the total neglect of the livestock sector by most of our politicians after being voted into power.

“He surprised us, unlike most politicians that make empty promises when seeking votes from electorates, Dr Ahmed Lawan fulfilled all the promises he made to us during the meeting and provided several water points and other numerous projects, such as free routine vaccination for thousands of our livestock on yearly basis,” Bello said.

The national president added that the senate president kept to his word and has been vaccinating thousands of livestock within his senatorial district for the past seven years under the supervision of Kulen Allah executives.

“Surely, the bold and courageous statement of the number three person in the country by openly saying that federal and most state governments are not doing the needful by making adequate budgetary provisions to better the lives of the nation’s pastoralists.

“It is also commendable that he solidly stood on our side in the struggle to correct the wrongs or end the hypocritical view of some of our people who are the direct beneficiaries of pastoralist production.

“We are greatly encouraged that just like other Nigerians, we will start benefiting from our government’s developmental policies and will enjoy the social services that we were excluded from benefiting for over fifty years now,” the president stated.

Speaking further, Honourable Bello said KACRAN is excited about the promises because it coincided with the association’s daily complaints to Nigerian leaders about the marginalisation of herders in the country.

“We are totally marginalised in almost all government’s provisions of social amenities to its citizens, this is something we have been saying continuously for so long, we are now being well understood by the number three person in the country, we believe the issue will be addressed to its logical conclusion God willing.

The herder’s association said they will rally support for the Senate President as he brings to life projects that will better their lives.

The association also called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Gbajabiamila, together with the members of the House to pass bills in favour of Nigerian pastoralists and end the untold hardship herders experience due to the neglect of previous administrations.

“KACRAN also called on the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to increase efforts toward the development of the livestock sector by making adequate budgetary provisions in the 2023 fiscal year where the interest of pastoralists will be fully captured and judiciously implemented.

“In conclusion, we call on members of both the Senate and House of Representatives to kindly emulate the Senate President’s good example by incorporating herders’ needs in their constituency projects so that at least our pressing challenges will be reduced to the barest minimum,” Bello concluded.
