Senate summons security chiefs over USAID Boko Haram link
The Nigerian Senate has summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, along with the Directors-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to appear before it behind closed doors.
This is in response to allegations made by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry, who recently claimed that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was involved in funding Boko Haram insurgency activities in Nigeria.
Although Perry’s allegations are under investigation by the U.S. Congress, the Nigerian Senate has decided to initiate its own inquiry.
The motion to address the issue was raised by Senator Ali Ndume, with the support of five other senators.
After a debate, the Senate resolved to summon the mentioned security officials to provide explanations on a date to be communicated to them.
