Shettima, Atiku, governors bid Sheikh Bauchi farewell

Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and several state governors on Friday joined thousands of mourners in Bauchi to bid farewell to renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died on Thursday at the age of 101.
The funeral prayer, held at the Kofar Gombe Eid Ground, drew a massive crowd comprising top political leaders, clerics, traditional rulers and disciples of the late scholar.
Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu, described the late Sheikh as “a beacon of knowledge and a moral guide whose teachings touched millions across Nigeria and beyond.” He said the scholar’s legacy in Qur’anic education and spiritual leadership would remain unmatched.

Atiku Abubakar also paid tribute to the deceased, calling him “a spiritual colossus whose decades of service strengthened Islamic learning and peaceful coexistence.” He offered prayers for Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
Governors from across the North, the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, ministers and leading figures in the Tijjaniyya movement were in attendance, reflecting the wide influence the cleric wielded over the years.
Sheikh Dahiru, founder of one of Nigeria’s largest Qur’anic schools and a central figure in the Tijjaniyya Order, passed away at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.

His death has sparked nationwide mourning, with adherents and students paying tribute to his decades of scholarship, philanthropy and religious mentorship. Communities across the country have continued to hold special prayers in his honour.
