Survey Coordination Act review, implemention top the agenda as OSGoF meets with security agencies, others

Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) has held a collaboration meeting with the Nigerian Armed Forces and relevant security agencies to implement the Survey Coordination Act and adopt artificial intelligence to boost national security.

The 2022 collaboration meeting was held on Thursday at the Ajuji Greenwich Hotel Abuja, under the distinguished chairmanship of the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

In his welcome address, the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, said the importance of the Survey Coordination Act of 1962 to national security can not be over-emphasised as it discourages dangerous activities, installations, and constructions on land, water bodies that can undermine national security and the sovereignty of the country.

While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to ending insecurity in the country, Surveyor Adebomehin called for synergy and participation by relevant MDAs and all security agencies to implement the act.

“The primary responsibility of the Armed Forces, police, and other security agencies is to defend and protect the territorial integrity of our nation against external and domestic threats, as well as to upload and enforce the laws of our land.

“This meeting, therefore, seeks the interventions and contributions of the participants in the spirit of patriotism and national interest in order to facilitate the formulation of informed policies and actions for the effective implementation of the Survey Coordination Act,” he said.

In his keynote address, the chief host of the event and the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, said the meeting is a national call to reflect and offer recommendations towards the successful implementation of the act and make policies that will bring about sustainable socio-economic development.

Represented by Aminu A Mustafa, Fashola urged the OSGOF to inaugurate units that would create awareness and sensitise members of the general public on offences that violate the Survey Coordination Act as amended.

Delivering a presentation on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Geospatial Intelligence for Nation security, the guest speaker and the CEO of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN). Dr. Olusola Sayeed Ayoola, gave a brief yet detailed presentation on the importance of Artificial, Robotics, Geospatial Intelligence for Nation security.

Olusola exclusively explain the Artificial Intelligence, Geospatial Intelligence, problems and preferred solutions that will help tackle the security situation of the country.

Further explaining the district wide view drone camera system. He said, “a drone can cover the whole of Oshogbo, the Osun state capital”. He also explain the importance of computer vision algorithm for automated detection and tracking.

The 2022 collaboration meeting had in attendance a representative of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao, Z.A Usman, personnel of the Air Force,Army, Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) Civil Defence, police , National Intelligent Agency(NIA) and others.
