Surviving the Nightmare: A harrowing account of bullying and abuse in public boarding schools (ii)

On This week’s episode of NP’s Family Dynamics, we will continue with the horrible story shared by an anonymous student on his experience at boarding school. Read, reflect and make better decisions for your wards.

“Dear Sis Eesher

I swear, I have been badly bullied in boarding school and my pen can’t write at all. It’s too much to say. Imagine your fellow man forcing his manhood into your anus.

Again, I recall a senior who smokes all kinds of weeds and drugs, and was given Imam of our small school mosque. There was a day he smoked and instead of the four rakat prayers for Isha prayers, he lead us with 8 straight rakats. When he was told, he spanked all of us, reiterating that he’s sure it was 4 rakaat. Who would complain?

Some of my mates then were cultists. You’ll see some seniors initiating their juniors and colleagues into cultism. Anyone who attended my school knows this especially If you stay in the boarding house. I’m glad I didn’t get initiated. At night, around 2-3am students would take others far to the football field or bush to initiate them with blood, oath and using razor blades to cut their backs. They call it” Baming”, which is an Initiation into cultism. You would be given books of their cult lord ( Odi) to read and you would be taught the language and you’re expected to speak it within your fellow cultists. Some of these cultists even go out of the school world to disturb and initiate others.

My course mate then, who was a cultist, would be in the classroom with a gun waiting for a slight mistake from the teacher to plan an attack. Sometimes, you find him and others going out to steal, or you’ll find him attacking other students who are not of the same cult group with him.

There was a day in the classroom, I was seated closer to my classmate; he had a gun and I mistakenly touched the gun, I took permission from the teacher to go and urinate. When I returned, I changed my seat. You can imagine how uncomfortable and surprised I was on how he got the gun.

In most boarding schools, initiation into cult is very common, so also stealing and bullying. Some students become better people due to the discipline, while others become bad people. But to be frank, the bad people out numbers the good people. Many of my mates were homosexuals and cultists. Some have died and some are still alive. Well, the boarding school teaches a child to be strong and tough, but sometimes wicked and rigid.
