Guinea’s junta chief promotes self to army general Mamadi Doumbouya, the leader of Guinea’s military junta, has promoted himself to the rank of army general as the country marks the establishment of its new armed forces. Doumbouya, who seized power in a coup in September 2021, previously overthrew President Alpha Conde. In a decree issued on Friday, Doumbouya, 43, also received the Grand Cross of the National Order of the Colatier, Guinea's highest honour, for his efforts in fostering social cohesion among the populace.
