Tambuwal: Elections in Nigeria not entirely decided by voters, collation process
Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has said that election outcomes in Nigeria are not always completely determined by voters, citing irregularities that often occur during the collation of results.
Tambuwal made the remarks while speaking on the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process, noting that although citizens turn out to vote, the integrity of elections is sometimes compromised after ballots are cast.
According to the former governor, critical issues frequently arise during the collation and transmission of results, which he described as a vulnerable stage capable of altering the will of the electorate.

He stressed that for Nigeria’s democracy to be strengthened, greater transparency and accountability must be enforced throughout the entire electoral process, particularly at collation centres.
Tambuwal also called for reforms that would safeguard votes and ensure that election results truly reflect the choices made by voters at polling units.

His comments have renewed public debate over electoral reforms and the need to restore confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
