Teenager arrested for throwing newborn from hotel window
A teenager from the United States has been arrested in Paris after allegedly throwing her newborn baby out of a hotel window, leading to the infant’s death.
According to a statement from the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, the young woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was initially taken to the hospital for surgery following the birth. She was later placed in police custody.

Authorities report that the newborn was thrown from the second-floor window of a hotel in the 20th arrondissement of Paris on Monday. Despite being rushed to emergency care, the infant did not survive. The prosecutors have since opened a homicide investigation into the incident.
It is suggested that the young woman, who was travelling in Europe with a group of young adults, may not have been aware of her pregnancy or could have been in denial about it.
A spokesperson for the mayor of the 20th arrondissement told CNN that the baby was initially found alive in a trash can near the hotel and was taken to Necker Children’s Hospital, where the child later passed away.
The local community has been shaken by the tragic event. Maria, a caretaker of a building opposite the Ibis hotel where the incident took place, recalled being woken by sirens early that morning. “There were police cars and ambulances,” she said. Officers later knocked on her door for eyewitness accounts. Initially, Maria thought the situation might be gang-related, but she was devastated upon learning the true nature of the tragedy. Describing the neighbourhood as quiet, with few tourists, she said, “It’s so sad.”
The US Embassy in Paris has acknowledged the arrest, stating it is closely monitoring the case. In a statement, the embassy expressed its sorrow, saying, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the recent tragedy involving the loss of a young life.”
