The shifting tide, by John Hussein

For decades, the United States and its allies have dominated global politics, imposing wars, sanctions, and economic coercion on nations that refuse to bow to their demands. Israel, backed unconditionally by the West, has long been shielded from accountability for its occupation, apartheid policies, and relentless violence against Palestinians.

But today, the world is changing. From the streets of Lapaz to the halls of the United Nations, a seismic shift is underway. A huge percentage of the global population now stands in solidarity with Iran and the Palestinian cause, while Western support for Israel crumbles even within the U.S. and Europe. The era of unchallenged Western tyranny is ending, and a new axis of resistance, led by self-reliant nations like Iran, is rising.

From South Africa (which took Israel to the ICJ for genocide) to Nigeria and Algeria, African nations have overwhelmingly condemned Israel’s slaughter in Gaza. The BRICS alliance, now including Iran, China, Russia, Brazil, and South Africa, is challenging Western economic dominance, offering an alternative to U.S.-controlled financial systems.

From Far East Malaysia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, millions have marched for Palestine. China and Russia, though cautious diplomatically, have amplified anti-colonial rhetoric, framing Israel as a relic of Western imperialism. Even India, historically pro-Israel, has seen mass protests demanding that Modi’s government cut military ties.

In Europe, while governments like Germany and France still arm Israel, their people rebel. Mass protests in London, Berlin, and Paris show growing dissent. Spain, Ireland, and Norway have officially recognised Palestinian statehood, a direct challenge to EU orthodoxy.

While the West drowns in its own contradictions, Iran stands as a pillar of anti-imperialist defiance. Unlike oil-rich Gulf states that rely on U.S. protection, Iran has built a self-sufficient economy despite decades of sanctions. Its support for Palestine, Yemen, and Lebanon is not just rhetorical, it’s a strategic challenge to Western dominance.

Since the revolution Iran broke free from the U.S. puppet rule, nationalising its resources and defying Western control. Despite threats, Iran mastered nuclear technology without surrendering to the U.S. demands. By backing groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, Iran has forced the West to confront a reality, its unchecked power is fading.

The world is waking up. The myth of Western moral superiority has collapsed under the weight of Gaza’s massacres. Iran is forging a new path based on justice and sovereignty.

The West’s desperation is evident. Censoring pro-Palestine voices. Threatening the ICC over Netanyahu’s arrest warrant. Sanctioning critics while arming a genocide.

History is written by the oppressed, and today, they are writing a new chapter where Western tyranny is replaced by a world of true equality. The question is no longer if the old order will fall, but when.
