Tinubu appoints Babatunde as acting Accountant General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

This appointment, effective immediately, follows the pre-retirement leave of the outgoing AGF, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, according to a statement released on Tuesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

The statement highlighted that President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Ogunjimi ensures a smooth transition in the management of Nigeria’s treasury and strengthens the ongoing reforms in the administration’s treasury policies.

Bayo Onanuga stated that Ogunjimi brings over 30 years of comprehensive experience in financial management across both the public and private sectors.

He described Ogunjimi as a career civil servant and the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF). Ogunjimi has held key roles, including Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and specialist in security and investment, Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting, according to the statement.

President Tinubu expressed his confidence in Ogunjimi, emphasizing the critical role of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation in managing the nation’s treasury operations. He stated, “Mr. Ogunjimi’s vast experience and proven competence will ensure the continued success of this important institution as we push forward with our economic reform agenda.”

The president also praised the outgoing Accountant General, Dr. Madein, for her dedication and selfless service to the country. Madein, having reached the civil service’s statutory retirement age, will retire on March 7, 2025.
