Tinubu nominates three new members for Code of Conduct Bureau
In a bid to strengthen oversight mechanisms, President Bola Tinubu has nominated three new members to fill vacancies on the Board of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
The nomination was communicated through a formal letter to the Senate President.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, the nominees include Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle from Oyo State, Kennedy Ikpeme from Cross River, and Justice Ibrahim Buba, a retired judge of the Federal High Court.
The Code of Conduct Bureau, established in 1979, plays a vital role in upholding integrity in the public service and ensuring adherence to the nation’s ethical standards.
The Bureau is governed by a 10-member board.

On October 23, 2024, President Tinubu officially swore in Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello as the chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau board.
The current board members are: Barr. Muritala Aliyu Kankia, Hon. E.J. Agbomayinma, Barr. Ben Umeano, and Prof. Juwayriyya Badamasiuy.
Other members of the board include Bulus I. Zephaniah and Hon. Abdulsalam Taofiq Olawale.
This development follows ongoing efforts by both the Senate and House of Representatives to remove Umar Danladi as chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal over allegations of corruption and misconduct.
Last Wednesday, the Senate, led by Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, invoked Section 157(1) of the Nigerian Constitution as the legal foundation for their resolution.
Similar to the Senate, the House of Representatives invoked Paragraph 17(3), Part 1, Fifth Schedule of the Constitution on Tuesday as the legal basis for the removal of Danladi.
However, the Senate later acknowledged that the section they had invoked actually applies to the removal of specific public officials, not the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal. During plenary, the Senate Leader admitted that the invocation was a mistake.
