President Bola Tinubu will swear in seven newly-appointed ministers on Monday. This was revealed in a Sunday statement from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The Ministers are Dr Nentawe Yilwatda – Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi – Minister of Labour & Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu – Minister of State for Foreign Affairs,” he announced.

“Others are Dr Jumoke Oduwole – Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (Trade and Investment); Idi Mukhtar Maiha – Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata – Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad – Minister of State Education.”

The Senate had last week cleared the ministers following a screening session in Abuja. They were appointed after President Tinubu undertook a cabinet reshuffle amid calls for a shake-up.

In the reshuffle, Tinubu dismissed five ministers and nominated seven others to fill the roles, subsequently sending their names to the Senate for confirmation. Additionally, he reassigned ten ministers to new portfolios.

Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu was appointed as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Dr Nentawe Yilwatda took the role of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, marking the end of Betta Edu’s tenure after her suspension.

The President also appointed Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Idi Mukhtar Maiha to head the newly created Livestock Development Ministry, Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.

Tinubu’s shake-up also saw the removal of Uju-Ken Ohanenye as Minister of Women Affairs, Lola Ade-John as Minister of Tourism, Tahir Mamman as Minister of Education, Abdullahi Gwarzo as Minister of State, Housing, and Urban Development, and Jamila Ibrahim as Minister of Youth Development.

The cabinet reshuffle comes just over a year after Tinubu initially appointed 48 ministers in August 2023, shortly after his inauguration as President. Facing mounting calls for a restructuring of his administration in response to economic challenges, Tinubu acted on the demands, reshuffling his cabinet to bring a renewed focus to critical sectors.
