Trafficked 28-year-old Nigerian woman to return from Iraq

A 28-year-old Nigerian woman, Eniola Isaac, who was trafficked to Iraq under false pretenses, is set to return to Nigeria, thanks to the intervention of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

Reports revealed that Isaac was lured to Iraq with promises of a better life, only to face abuse, physical assault, and maltreatment from her employer. She sought help from Nigerian authorities, pleading to be rescued and brought back home.

In an update shared via NiDCOM’s official X handle, the commission highlighted the alarming rise in trafficking cases involving young Nigerian women deceived by unscrupulous agents.

“Eniola Isaac, a 28-year-old trafficked Nigerian girl in Iraq, is expected to return to Nigeria on January 3rd with the intervention of officials from the Nigerian mission in Jordan, which oversees Iraq,” NiDCOM announced.

The commission also disclosed an ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of another Nigerian woman who had traveled to Iraq as a carer. “The Nigerian government has demanded an autopsy to determine the cause of death,” the statement read.

NiDCOM further warned young Nigerians to be wary of deceptive recruitment agents who exploit individuals with promises of lucrative jobs abroad. It stated that many unsuspecting victims end up in slavery or forced prostitution upon arrival in foreign countries.
