Trump appoints 27-year-old Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary
Karoline Leavitt, a 27-year-old from New Hampshire, has been appointed as President-elect Donald Trump’s White House Press Secretary, making history as the youngest person ever to hold this high-pressure position. Leavitt, who began her political journey as a student assistant for Fox News during Trump’s 2016 campaign, has had a meteoric rise through the ranks of the Republican Party.
Trump expressed full confidence in her abilities, stating, “She is smart, tough and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium, and help deliver our message to the American People.”
Leavitt’s conservative values align closely with Trump’s agenda, including his stance on anti-immigration policies and his skepticism of traditional media outlets. She is known for her fierce criticism of the press, particularly the media’s coverage of the Trump administration. In a recent Fox News podcast, she commented on the “fake news” reporters she encountered during the campaign, stating, “There are a lot of journalists who aren’t interested in journalism anymore, and we deal with them every day.”
Before this appointment, Leavitt served as Trump’s campaign spokeswoman and was a regular presence at rallies and court appearances throughout 2024. She also took a brief maternity leave in July, during which she gave birth to her son.

Leavitt’s rise through the Republican ranks began during the 2016 presidential primaries when she was a student at Saint Anselm College. She gained attention for her opposition to identity politics and for her conservative beliefs, which she expressed in a column titled “Why Donald Trump just keeps on winning and the media doesn’t get it.”
After Trump’s defeat in 2020, Leavitt ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Representatives and worked as a communications director for Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who has been nominated as UN Ambassador by Trump.
As White House Press Secretary, Leavitt will face significant challenges, particularly from Trump, who is known to scrutinize media coverage closely. Despite these challenges, Leavitt’s swift rise and political expertise have positioned her as one of the youngest and most outspoken figures in the Trump administration.
