Turbaning walima held for Prof. Musa Ahmed as Sarkin Gonan Wasagu (Pictures & Video)
A walima was held in honour of Professor Musa Isiyaku Ahmed to commemorate his turbaning as Sarkin Gonan Wasagu, surrounded by loved ones, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Professor Ahmed’s appointment as Sarkin Gonan Wasagu follows his earlier recognition on February 15, 2025 by the Sarkin Wasagu, HRH Alhaji Mukhtar Musa Wasagu, at his palace.
Professor Ahmed’s leadership influence extends to the Emirate of Zuru, where he holds a position on the Chiefdom of Wasagu council, underscoring his significant role in regional governance.
His exceptional contributions to mechanised agriculture, spanning the entire production cycle from planting to harvesting, have earned him widespread recognition.
With an impressive 35 years of experience in agriculture, Professor Ahmed’s expertise has greatly benefited society, particularly in the realm of mechanised contemporary agriculture and as a voracious player in the seed sector in Nigeria.

In his academic capacity, Professor Ahmed is the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, Kebbi State. His extensive qualifications include fellowships with the College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria (FCVSN), Institute of Human and Natural Resources (FIHNR) and Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN).

He is also affiliated with the Computer Professionals Council, Nigeria (CPN), the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), and the Academia in Information Technology Professionals (AITP).
Professor Ahmed’s career is distinguished by numerous academic and administrative roles. He served as Director of the Instructional Technology Centre at the University of Maiduguri from 2019 to 2020 and as Coordinator of the same center from 2018 to 2019.
His tenure as Director of Computer Services and Information Technology at the University of Ilorin spanned from 2014 to 2017, and he was Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Maiduguri between 2010 and 2012. He also served as a member of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria during the same period.
His research contributions are significant, with demonstrable academic leadership in his publications focusing on veterinary parasitology and related fields.
Professor Ahmed’s leadership extends beyond academia; he participated in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Food Security’s coordinating committee for the United Nations General Assembly in 2022 and contributed to the Stakeholder Mapping Team in 2023.

He currently serves on the TETFund Advisory Committee on Digital Literacy, Productivity, and Emerging Skills and acts as a consultant for the National Assembly’s “Alternative Education Initiative” in the Northeast geopolitical region.
The turbaning ceremony not only celebrated Professor Ahmed’s personal achievements but also highlighted his unwavering commitment to academia and national development, reinforcing his influential role in both educational and traditional spheres.
