UN Secretary – General congratulates Iran on the Islamic revolution anniversary

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has congratulated the government and people of Iran on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, while stressing the need for dialogue and stronger international cooperation to confront mounting global challenges.

In a message addressed to President Masoud Pezeshkian to mark Iran’s National Day, Guterres conveyed his warm wishes and described such commemorations as important moments to reflect on a nation’s history, its contributions to the global community, and its hopes for the future.

The UN chief said national anniversaries also highlight the value of solidarity, dialogue and shared responsibility among states, particularly at a time of rapid and complex international developments. According to him, the world needs cooperation and mutual understanding now more than ever.

Guterres pointed to a range of pressing issues demanding collective action, including the need to end ongoing wars, prevent new conflicts, tackle the climate emergency, reduce widening inequalities and ensure responsible governance of powerful emerging technologies.

He emphasized that meeting these tests would require deeper engagement among nations, a renewed commitment to multilateralism and stronger partnerships.
