Understanding the month of Rabi’ul Awwal, by Adamu Muhammad Usman
The month of Rabi’ul Awwal is the third month of the Islamic Hijrah calendar. It is also the most significant month in Islamic history because humanity was blessed in this month by the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Before the birth of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), not only the Arabian Peninsula but also the so-called civilized nations of Rome and Persia were engulfed in darkness—ignorance, superstition, oppression, and unrest.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came with the eternal truth of the religion of Islam. Islam consists of three indivisible components: Tawheed (belief in the oneness of God), Ibadat (acts of worship), and Mu’amalat (relationships with God and humanity in general). Islam is the faith that provides a firm foundation for the true concepts of love, knowledge, equity, justice, and peace.

It was on the 12th of Rabi’ul Awwal that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born, and also on the same day, the 12th of Rabi’ul Awwal, that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) passed away.
The life of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) is, without a doubt, the most important source of guidance for all Muslims. Every Muslim is obligated to learn and study the events of his life and follow the practical examples he set in every sphere of life. May God grant us the will, passion, patience, zeal, understanding, and endurance to emulate and practice the teachings of the noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
