UNICAL professor jailed over sexual harassment
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced suspended University of Calabar (UNICAL) Law Professor Cyril Ndifon to five years imprisonment for sexual harassment.
The court found that the prosecution, led by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), proved beyond reasonable doubt that Ndifon, the former Dean of the Faculty of Law, abused his position by pressuring a student, identified as TKJ, to perform an immoral act in exchange for academic admission.
Justice Omotosho stated that Ndifon took undue advantage of his role overseeing the diploma course, which the victim sought to join. He also described Ndifon as untruthful and unable to refute the evidence presented.

Ndifon was convicted on two counts and sentenced to two years on the first count and five years on the second count, to run concurrently. The judge noted Ndifon was a first-time offender and considered leniency but upheld the sentence.
The court discharged and acquitted the second defendant, Sunny Anyanwu, who had previously acted as Ndifon’s lawyer.
