University of Ibadan ex-deputy VC, Prof. Agbaje, regains freedom

The kidnapped former deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Adigun Abgaje, has regained freedom.

This was disclosed by the Oyo State Police Command on Monday.

Neptune Prime reports that Agbaje was abducted while on his way to Ibadan at about 6pm on Friday when kidnappers blocked his way near Sat Guru Maharaji Garden.

Also, the kidnappers “eliminated some policemen around the scene” before leaving the scene with their captives.

The abductors made contact with Agbaje’s family, demanding N50 million ransom.

Confirming his release, Adewale Osifeso, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the police command, said Agbaje is currently undergoing debriefing and that an update will be provided on the matter, according to The Cable. 

He, however, did not did not state whether a ransom was paid to secure his release.

He also did not give details about the release of the other kidnapped travellers.
