US embassy issues security alert in Abuja

The United States (US) embassy in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, has issued a security alert to its nationals as well as residents in the city of a potential terror attack.

In a short email sent by the embassy dated October 23, at exactly 9:29AM and obtained by Neptune Prime, the embassy warns that the possible attacks will be targeted at and not “limited to, government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities and international organizations. Services at the embassy will reduce until further notice.”

The embassy therefore advises its nationals and residents in the city to take necessary actions such as “avoid all non-essential travel or movement, stay alert, avoid crowds, review your personal security plans and keep your cell phone charged in case of emergency, carry proper identification.”
