USAID: US reaffirms support for Nigeria against Boko Haram

The United States has condemned Boko Haram’s actions, reaffirming its commitment to working alongside Nigeria and the wider region to ensure the safety of the people.

This message, shared via an ‘X’ post by the US mission to Nigeria, outlines the reasons behind the US’s 2013 designation of the group as a terrorist organization.

The post highlights that the US’s actions were aimed at obstructing Boko Haram’s financial networks, including blocking the group’s assets, hindering fundraising, prosecuting its members, and preventing them from traveling to the United States.

In response to allegations raised by U.S. representative Scott Perry regarding USAID’s funding of terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram, the US mission assures that comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to ensure aid reaches its intended recipients.

The US condemns the violence perpetrated by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups, maintaining its commitment to collaborate with Nigeria and regional partners in combating terrorism.
