Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the private military company Wagner, is suspected to have perished in a tragic plane crash in Russia, according to the country’s civil aviation authority.

According to reports from the Wagner-linked Telegram channel Grey Zone, the Embraer aircraft was allegedly shot down by air defenses in the Tver region, located north of Moscow.

The ill-fated jet, en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg, was carrying a total of seven passengers and three crew members.

Prigozhin gained prominence for his involvement in a failed mutiny against the Russian armed forces in June.
