We don’t need your support for Tinubu’s policies  - FG replies Emir Sanusi

The Federal Government has responded to comments made by the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, regarding the economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government expressed disappointment in Sanusi’s remarks, describing them as “amusing” and inconsistent with his previous advocacy for such reforms.

“As a respected leader and economist, Emir Sanusi II is expected to uphold forthrightness, fairness, and justice. It is disappointing to see him subtly condemn reforms that he once championed,” the statement read.

The government emphasised that the reforms are critical to addressing long-standing economic challenges and restoring stability.

“Nigeria is at a pivotal juncture where bold actions are necessary. Unity, focus, and sacrifice are required from all stakeholders, including esteemed leaders,” it added.

The statement urged leaders to avoid rhetoric that could undermine public trust and confidence in the administration’s efforts to rebuild the economy.

During the 21st Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture in Lagos, where he served as chairman, Emir Sanusi expressed concerns about the administration’s economic direction.

He stated, “This government is getting some things wrong,” while also expressing reluctance to provide solutions to the issues he highlighted.
