A parent of one of the abducted students of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic recently released by bandits has come out to say a ransom has been paid to secure the release of the students.
Gunmen attacked the main campus of the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Kaduna on June 11 and took students and staff members, in the process killing one student.
Kidnappings by armed men, commonly referred to in Nigeria as “bandits”, have become worst in northern Nigeria, disrupting the education of hundreds of thousands of children.
After the students and staff member regained their freedom, the school authority confirmed their release but declined to comment whether a ransom was paid to secure their release.

The parents and relatives of the abducted persons who have refused to state the particular amount they gave the bandits said they have been communicating with the kidnappers, and finally reached an agreement on the amount to be paid.
“I am not in a position to tell you how much we contributed and paid. That is not necessary. The most important thing is that we have secured their freedom period,” said Saminu Bala, one of the parents of the freed students.
