We’re ready to receive Gov Yusuf – All Progressives Congress

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has reiterated its readiness to welcome Governor Abba Yusuf into the party amid growing speculation over his planned defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Reports suggest that the governor may announce his decision in the first week of next year, a development that has already triggered uncertainty and tension within the NNPP across the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, the APC State Chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, described the anticipated move as one driven by unity, reconciliation and the broader interest of Kano State. He said the invitation extended to Governor Yusuf was made on behalf of the party’s national leader and former Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

According to Abbas, the gesture is aimed at promoting political harmony and fast-tracking development in the state, adding that cooperation among major political stakeholders is essential for stability and prosperity.

“The APC is ready to receive Governor Yusuf with open arms so that, together, we can harness our collective strengths for the progress and development of Kano State,” he said.

Abbas stressed that the party’s stance reflects its commitment to inclusiveness and collective responsibility, noting that politics should serve the people rather than fuel division. He added that should Yusuf formally join the APC, he and other NNPP leaders who may defect alongside him would be received under the leadership of Dr Ganduje in a spirit of mutual respect and shared purpose.

The APC chairman expressed confidence that the expected political realignment would strengthen the party in Kano and improve collaboration among political leaders, with positive outcomes for governance and socio-economic growth.

Speculation over the governor’s alleged defection intensified on Sunday following a viral video in which his Director of Protocol, Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, openly declared support for Yusuf’s reported move to the APC.

Speaking with party leaders in Rogo Local Government Area, Rogo claimed that influential members of the Kwankwasiyya movement in the area had agreed that both former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf should defect to the APC.

He argued that the move was in the best interest of the people and would better position Kwankwaso to pursue his long-standing presidential ambition.

“We have resolved that Kwankwaso is our leader, and that he and Governor Yusuf should take us to APC,” Rogo said, while urging supporters to avoid abusive politics and remain committed to the Kwankwasiyya ideology despite the planned switch.

In a similar development, the Director-General, Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature, also endorsed the alleged defection in another video, aligning himself with the decision of his Dawakin Tofa Local Government caucus to follow the governor to the APC.

At a meeting of NNPP caucuses in Dawakin Tofa, the council chairman, Anas Danmaliki, said the Kwankwasiyya movement had split into “pro-masses and anti-masses,” declaring his full support for Governor Yusuf. Sanusi Bature echoed the sentiment, stating that he was “1,000 percent” in agreement.
