Yobe Education Commissioner seeks to improve state’s tertiary institutions

Commissioner for Higher Education in Yobe State, Professor Mohammed Munkaila has said that the issue of Infrastructure and manpower deficits in the State’s tertiary institutions would soon be over as the ministry has in its disposal comprehensive information that would be utilized to reposition the institutions.

The Commissioner was speaking on his familiarization visit to the Higher institutions of learning in the state.

From preliminary findings during his visit, the commissioner explained that a lot needs to done ranging from reviewing of courses content of the institution to improving teacher-student relationship in accordance with the minimum benchmarks stipulated by the education regulatory bodies in the country.

He noted with expression the huge investment that government committed in the various institutions of higher learning explaining the existing laws establishing these instructions need to be reviewed so that the tertiary institutions in the state would compete favourably with their counterpart across the federation.

On Staff development, Professor Munkaila noted that the ministry would institutionalize a plan of action that would open more window for staff development in all tertiary institutions through partnerships and linkages with other relevant institutions and education bodies within and outside the country.

He reminded management of various institutions that education is topping the priority list of the present administration saying that the government would not condone and tolerate indolence and non-performance from them.

The Commissioner has so far visited Atiku Abubakr College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Nguru, Umar Suleiman College of Education Gashua, College of Business and Administrative Studies Postikum and College of Agriculture Gujba.
