Yobe Govt, Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation empowers 50 SMEs with skill enhancement training

Story from Kasim Isa Muhammad

The Yobe State Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment, and Employment Generation has joined forces with the esteemed Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation to organize a transformative 10-day training program. This initiative aimed to equip 50 small and medium-scale enterprise (SME) operators with essential soft skills, enabling them to contribute to sustainable business development.

The training program, inaugurated by Governor Mai Mala Buni himself in Damaturu, received accolades for its objective of enhancing the participants’ abilities to fuel employment opportunities and generate income in the state. Governor Buni emphasized his administration’s commitment to empowering the youth and women, highlighting their collaboration with the federal government in supporting smallholder farmers through access to credit facilities to boost agricultural productivity.

This impactful event catered to various SME sectors, including furniture-making, catering, tailoring/fashion design, auto technicians, electronic technicians, food processing, poultry, aquaculture, animal husbandry, and the building industry. The participants underwent training to become skilled trainers themselves, creating a transformative train-the-trainers program aimed at increasing productivity and fostering wealth creation among existing enterprises in Yobe State.

Hon. Abdullahi Bego, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Buni on Wealth Creation, Empowerment, and Employment Generation, emphasized the alignment between this training program and the governor’s broader empowerment initiatives. Carefully selected beneficiaries based on their skills and areas of specialization ensured optimal outcomes for the participants.

Engr. Abubakar G. Umar, the Director-General of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, shed light on the training’s significance within their comprehensive capacity development efforts spanning the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. This laudable collaboration aims to empower and uplift entrepreneurs, contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of the region.
