Yobe invests ₦300 million in livelihoods, empowers 1,500 displaced residents, 340 women

Yobe State Government has rolled out a comprehensive empowerment package, directly investing in micro-enterprises and women-led businesses as part of a drive to spur economic recovery and support vulnerable groups in the state.
The centrepiece of the initiative is a ₦300 million grant launched by Governor Mai Mala Buni on Tuesday, targeting 1,500 individuals from the insurgency-affected and displaced community of Malum Dunari in Gujba Local Government Area.
Each beneficiary is to receive ₦200,000 as seed capital to establish or grow a small business, backed by mandatory entrepreneurial training to ensure sustainability.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Buni framed the grant as a critical component of his administration’s long-term strategy for communities devastated by conflict.

“This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to recovery, stabilisation, and durable solutions. We are moving beyond relief to creating lasting livelihoods,” said Governor Buni
He connected the economic initiative to broader infrastructural investments in the region, citing ongoing projects in the neighbouring Goniri community.
These include a newly constructed Primary Healthcare Centre, motorised water boreholes, and solar streetlights developments aimed at laying a foundation for secured and revitalised communities.
In a separate ceremony marking International Women’s Day, the state government, acting through the Ministry of Women Affairs, empowered 340 women from across all 17 Local Government Areas.
Each woman received a business starter kit designed for the bakery trade, containing a cooking gas cylinder, a micro-oven, a mixer, and a bag of flour.
The packages are intended to provide immediate income-generating opportunities.
Governor Buni charged all beneficiaries to be prudent and transformative with the support.

“You are among the select few chosen from thousands in need,” he remarked.
He urged beneficiaries to use the items and grant resources judiciously to build sustainable enterprises that will improve their families and communities.
